Breadth
This is the breadth section of my AP Drawing portfolio. It consists of 12 pieces that show off a variety of skills, techniques, mediums I am able to use.
Concentration
This is the concentration section of my Drawing Portfolio. This section consists of 12 pieces that focus on a single theme, motif, idea, etc. of my choosing.
The nature of my concentration focuses on hands and their interactions with cloth, with each other, and with marbles. Through different compositions, hand positions, and contrasting colors, I explored the themes of conflict and constriction from society and the freedom we can experience through the acceptance of ourselves and love from others in our lives.
My concentration evolves from showing stress and conflict, as a hand is gripping cloth tightly (1) and two hands are intensely pulling cloth apart (2). This tension portrayed expresses the stress and expectations society often put on us according to who we want to be and how we are expected to be, and the colorfulness of the hands (3, 4) show the multifacetedness behind our identities. As the series progresses, clear marbles (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) are incorporated to represent who we genuinely identify ourselves as. The hand in piece 3 is reaching for the marble and is finally able to attain it in piece 4, showing acceptance for ourselves. Once we accept who we are and embrace it, we are able to give our genuine selves to others, which is shown in how the hands are giving marbles to each other (7, 8). This acceptance of ourselves and others is what will free us from the constructions society pressures us to fall under, which is shown in how a hand is pulling the cloth off the other (9). Overall, this concentration portrays the process of our journeys to self-acceptance despite who others tell us to be and eventually the acceptance of others and the love they have to offer to us, which is shown in 10, 11, 12. We are able to only fully accept and feel the love of others once we love and accept who we are.
